Martina was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic. Her formative years were spent in defiance of a Communist regime as an activist and actress in the underground resistance in the arts, theatre, and movies. Seeking new adventures after the fall of Communism, she decided to study abroad where by sheer chance she began her Iyengar Yoga practice just 4 hours after she landed on American soil in Berkeley, Ca in 1991.
Since then, yoga has become a way of life for her. She completed Iyengar teacher training in 2015 and a year apprenticeship with Julie Lawrence. After a recent trip to Nepal in 2017, she started teaching. She finds yoga to be a constant source of inspiration and knowledge. She teaches her yoga classes with a mix of curiosity and humor and is currently preparing for Iyengar Yoga certification assessment. When she is not standing on her head, she is tending to her beehives, studying yoga philosophy, traveling the wide world and raising two precocious young daughters.
