The Joy of Teaching
Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program
“A real teacher is a pupil within.” — B.K.S. Iyengar
Beginning in January 2019, Jewel Yoga is again offering our popular Teacher Training Program with Julie Lawrence which explores the art and joy of teaching Iyengar Yoga. It addresses the fundamentals of the Iyengar method of yoga and encourages participants to approach their desire to teach as a creative journey. The Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (IYNAUS) officially endorses this program.
The duration of the program is six months. Classes meet Saturday and Sunday afternoons, one weekend per month. Students must have a minimum of three years Iyengar Yoga experience or permission of the instructor. It is open to those currently teaching who want to refine their skills, those with a desire to teach, and those who want to deepen their commitment to their personal practice of yoga. This is a course in how to teach, not a course of advanced poses. Previous graduates of the JY/JLYC Teacher Training Programs may take the course again at a discounted rate.
We will be working with the Iyengar Yoga Introductory I & II syllabi from the IYNAUS Certification Manual. Please know that this Teacher Training Program will help prepare you for the Iyengar Yoga certification assessment, but additional work is required prior to applying for certification as the process is a rigorous one! More information about IYNAUS certification can be found at https://iynaus.org/certification-process

Julie Lawrence, Founder of the Julie Lawrence Yoga Center (now Jewel Yoga) and certified Intermediate senior Iyengar Yoga teacher, has studied directly with the Iyengar Family in India numerous times. Julie’s clarity and precision coupled with humor and encouragement create a rewarding class. She teaches yoga, her life-long love, as a transformative practice. Julie has served the community by fulfilling a four year term on the Board of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the US. She chaired both the highly successful Iyengar Yoga national convention in May 2010 in Portland and the Teacher’s Exchange, in Boulder, Colorado in 1996. Both conventions, specifically for Iyengar Yoga certified teachers, welcomed Geeta Iyengar as the honored guest teacher. Julie has been an assessor for the IYNAUS certification assessment process since 1994.
